ABOUT SUSAN

Where every song tells a story and every moment builds connection

Susan Barnes is a powerful Progressive Country/Blues-Rock vocalist on a mission to connect, inspire, and ignite audiences. As a singer, songwriter, and performer, she brings raw passion to every stage while supporting local talent and keeping live music alive. From songwriter circles to live performances, her soulful sound and heartfelt lyrics create a music experience that hits deep and lingers long after the final note.

Susan’s musical journey began at age 10, when she first imagined herself performing on stage as a vocalist. By 15, she was already bringing that dream to life, singing solos at her local church and developing her voice through choirs and ensembles. As her passion and confidence grew, so did her opportunities, leading to performances at high-profile events hosted by the Bank of Montreal, including Christmas celebrations and corporate banquets—an exciting early milestone in her career.

Susan Barnes’ early experiences in performing and singing played a pivotal role in shaping her identity as an artist. By the late 1990s, she had committed to establishing herself within the music and entertainment industry, driven by a deep recognition that music was central to who she is. Through actively pursuing networking opportunities, she connected with a wide range of industry professionals—including singers, songwriters, musicians, producers, and sound engineers—building relationships that supported her growth and presence in the field.

As an active member of the British Columbia Songwriters Association, Susan found a vibrant, supportive community that connected her with fellow local songwriters and helped her unlock her ability to create meaningful, authentic songs.

Susan’s music career continues to flourish, highlighted by standout performances at BC Songwriters’ Showcases in Langley and T.G.I. Fridays in downtown Vancouver. She has also taken the stage at notable events including the Desert Country Music Festival, a Christmas charity event for JRFM, and a lively New Year’s celebration at Big Ridge Brewing Company in Surrey, showcasing her growing presence and versatility as a performer.

Susan now calls Vancouver Island home, bringing a renewed drive to her music after relocating from Vancouver. She’s writing original songs, honing her guitar skills, and preparing for live performances while continuing to record new material. With the release of her debut singles, “What’s That You Say?” and “It Keeps Me Sane,” now streaming on all major platforms, Susan is stepping confidently into the next chapter of her career—while also learning to record and produce her music from the ground up.

As her journey evolves, Susan steps into a new chapter alongside bandmate and music partner Ed Horodeski. Together, they’ve formed Rough Diamonds—a collaboration driven by grit, fire, and undeniable chemistry. Hitting the stage later this year, they’re set to deliver raw, high-impact performances that connect and leave a lasting mark. There’s power in music that doesn’t chase perfection—and that’s exactly where Rough Diamonds shines
